Photo by Albert Arthur Allen (USA, 1886-1962). Allen photographed nudes from ca. 1915-1930 from his studio in Oakland, California USA. Although they would have been tame in Europe, Allen’s nudes were shocking in the USA, partly because they showed pubic hair. Allen was a pioneer who fought obscenity charges in US courts for years, eventually winning and helping to make nude photographs legal in the USA. A brochure ca. 1925 states that Allen’s models included Ruth Melbourne, Evell Boudre, Clara Wills, Grace Royce and Alla Dare.
